Through years of interacting with proactive men and women building their careers and formulating their educational plans, certain questions are reoccurring. Below is a quick summary.
How does distance learning differ from the classroom experience?
Distance learning is one of the oldest instructional delivery systems in the Western world. It was practiced extensively by the early fathers of the Western Church as exemplified by the Epistles of St. Paul. It has been practiced regularly and successfully throughout history. Specifically, you avoid parking hassles, rising fuel costs, travel time, specific dates and times when you must be at a particular location, overcrowded classrooms, and the uncomfortable feeling of being a ‘fish out of water’ that an older or returning student can often experience.
Do you teach on-line?
On-line is great. But, it can have its own built-in hassles – including, having to be at a computer for specific sessions at a particular time, and discussions dictated by other students’ needs and wants, rather than designed to suit the needs of the individual student. With California Pacific, if you would like to talk to your instructor during our telephone hours, you simply pick up the phone and call us toll free @ 1-800-458-9667 (10:00AM – 4:00PM PT Mon. – Thurs.).
We believe our format, tried and true as it is, offers the greatest flexibility to the student.
It is also worth noting that as in any new growth industry, some on-liners could be here today and gone tomorrow.
Can I transfer credits into California Pacific University and from California Pacific University into other institutions?
California Pacific University will accept appropriate transfer credits from accredited or state approved institutions. Transferability of California Pacific University credits to other institutions is determined by each individual institution which is standard practice throughout academia (please see enclosed Bulletin for further details).
How much credit can I get for work/life experience?
Credit is limited to the recommendations of the American Council On Education and may not exceed 25% of the total number of credits required for a bachelor degree. No credit for work/life experience is awarded at the graduate level. All graduate credits must be earned credits.
How do I fit study into a busy life filled with work and family?
One good strategy is to make the people closest to you your educational support system. Let them be a part of the process so that the rewards are their rewards too. This makes a few skipped activities worth it to those who care about you the most!
A classic example of the benefits is Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln studied Blackstone’s Commentaries On The Law by lamplight in a drafty frontier cabin. He eventually became a prominent lawyer and later, the President of the United States.
How long does it take to earn a degree from California Pacific University ?
Generally speaking, you may work at your own pace within your enrollment period. The exact length of time depends on your completing assignments on a regular basis as well as the degree you are seeking.
By the way, at some schools you might wait a year or more for a course required in order to graduate. Not only can this add unnecessary cost to your program, but it also builds into what should be an enjoyable process, unnecessary stress and aggravation. At California Pacific University your courses are ready and waiting for you!
When I graduate, in addition to transcripts, will I also receive a diploma? And, does the diploma indicate the format I’ve used for my studies?
You will receive a diploma that is a completely traditional document that indicates only your academic accomplishments. You can display your diploma with pride!
Tuition at California Pacific University is so reasonable. Why are you so affordable?
A cornerstone of our philosophy for three decades has been the delivery of a fine business education to working adults. We are a single discipline school and as such we don’t try to offer any and every degree. We don’t hire high pressure, commissioned ‘sales’ representatives. And, we don’t maintain the high overhead of either ‘chrome and glass’ corporate headquarters or a sprawling campus with tenured faculty requiring large research facilities.
Also, because we feel that working adults can fund their own education with our no interest tuition payment plan of only $100.00 per month, we don’t participate in either regional or national accreditation. Although accreditation serves more than one purpose quite well, the primary purpose of accreditation is to process student loans ( a profitable practice for all but the student – please see the next question/answer).
By the way, in the case of national accreditation, government guaranteed student loans aren’t always available for degree granting institutions. And F.Y.I., nationally accredited schools currently are not allowed to offer degrees at the doctoral level by the United States Department of Education. Our graduating masters level students can look forward to continuing their work with us through the doctoral level.
Can I apply for a student loan?
Why would you want to? California Pacific extends its own no interest loan to all entering students. You pay $150.00 each and every month while you are enrolled and as long as you’ve completed your coursework within your enrollment period, you may continue to pay $150.00 per month until you’ve paid all your tuition. Degrees are conferred when all obligations both academic and financial have been satisfied. Let’s take a closer look.
A ten course M.B.A. at California Pacific is $4,450.00 total tuition. An M.B.A. regionally accredited, on-line may be around $17,000.00 depending upon how many credit hours the student accumulates. Using a government guaranteed student loan to pay back the $17,000.00 at say, a 7% interest rate paid back over a fifteen year period of time may actually mean that that $17,000.00 is actually more like $27,333.00 or over $10,000.00 dollars more than the original cost for tuition! For working adults the choice becomes simple!
Why should I enroll now?
As one recently enrolled student said to us:
Here I put it off. I knew I needed the degree but the value of my house increased so I did a lot of improvements to my property instead. But things change, my company was sold and the new outfit has stricter promotion policies. So, I’m mowing the lawn one day and I get to thinking, ‘hey, if I don’t get my degree all the time, money, and attention I’ve put into my house might just turn out to be for someone else’s home!’ That got me motivated I can tell you!
